Kyiv: President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the law of Ukraine No. 2145-VIII “On Education”.
“This is one of the main reforms, because from one other reform the future of the country does not depend on education,” Poroshenko said at the signing.
He also noted that this law will allow developing the Ukrainian language, because it enhances its role in the educational process. Nevertheless, Poroshenko also stressed the importance of supporting the languages of national minorities on the territory of Ukraine.
In connection with the latest misunderstandings with neighboring countries through the educational law, the president called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education to hold the necessary negotiations with foreign colleagues.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a new law on education on September 5. In response, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania sent a letter to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in which they expressed concern over the new law. And the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the purpose of the new law of Ukraine “On Education” is “infringement of the interests of millions of Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine.” The President of Romania even canceled the visit to Ukraine because of the adoption of the document.
